Each year, before Semana Santa (Holy Week), the City of La Antigua does extensive street repair, primarily to provide a safer path for the processions, especially the large barges they use during Semana Santa that might have 120 men moving the barges at one time.
Here is a fellow doing street repair to a cobblestone street. After removing the loose cobblestones, they prepare a new base, replace the cobblestones, put a concrete and sand mixture in the spaces around the cobblestones and beat them into place with this piece of tree trunk.
Maybe our street crews back in the states need some high tech equipment like this for their repair jobs.
