On Friday, Linda comes to Ochenta (where I work) to join me for lunch and we walk back home together. On our latest walk, we saw this school group going on a field trip.
All students in Guatemala wear uniforms to school. This is one of the reasons that poorer families often can't afford to send their children even to the public schools, which are free, except for the uniform fee and the book fee and the supply fee...Sound familiar?
The one exception to the uniform are the indigenous (Maya) students, who often wear their ropa tipica (native dress), and even then some schools have a school apron that they wear over it.
