More Transitions Staff

Let's continue with the staff of Transitions. This is Edwin. He drives the Wheelchair Workshop staff to the workshop site every morning and comes back to pick them up every evening. He also delivers their lunch around noon each weekday. He does other things that I haven't yet learned.

Efrain is the Vocational Training Coordinator for Transitions, among other things. On my first day on staff, I found myself helping him translate some thank you letters from recipients (or their parents) that would be sent to donors. I must admit that I led him into cheating. We first ran the letters in Spanish through Google Translate. The results weren't perfect, but they saved us a lot of time. Of course, translating is not the process of changing words from one language to another, it's actually the changing of thoughts from one culture to another.

Francisco is the accountant for Transitions. With his assistant (I'll get his picture later), he's responsible for insuring that all funds are properly recorded and accounted for. Since he's a fairly recent graduate with a college degree in accounting, he has a senior accounting advisor who stops by on a regular basis to make sure things are being handled properly. By the way, you probably know that U.S. accounting sums accounts at the bottom, but did you know that in Guatemala, they are summed at the top of the account. This requires that financial reports be translated, just like language.

This last photo includes another shot of Efrain, but also includes the Communications Director, Chris, who shares our casita with us. He's the short one on the right in the photo. Chris is quiet and though he does like to go out on weekend nights, he doesn't make a lot of noise when he returns. I can't imagine what he does when he goes out, perhaps he's star gazing. He's in his third year of exploring Latin America: Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, and Guatemala. We'll have to have a contest to determine where he goes nest. By the way, he's originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. He's also a freelance writer.
