Remembering Al

Today we stopped by San Francisco El Grande, the Franciscan-managed church on the grounds of the former Franciscan Monastery and now home to a much smaller group of Franciscan friars and priests. Believe it or not, they have a special office for Mass intentions that is open on Saturday morning.

Starting tomorrow at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and continuing for the following nine weeks, Alcuin Kirberg (USA) will be remembered during the liturgy. I'm afraid that we don't have any pretty Mass cards, but we do have our receipt for the 10 Mass intentions.

The "donation" for this was Q20 per Mass intention, so the total cost was Q200 or about $26.00. It was clearly a great value. We'll be sitting near the front of church tomorrow morning waiting to hear how Al's name is mangled when it is announced in Spanish. Perhaps we'll be able to recognized it before we leave Guatemala. By covering so many weeks of the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, I'm sure that we will have Al's double celebrating his intention several times.
